For my
creature I was influenced by a number of different animals. I incorporated
aspects of butterflies, bats, flamingos, angelfish, monkeys and eagles. The
wings are structured like a bat’s wings with the membranes of butterflies and
later on will also incorporate the colours of butterflies. The body is
influenced by flamingos because they act feminine and human-like. The myth I chose
depicts the phoenix as a feminine bird, human-like and also quite colourful.
The head of
my creature is a bird because the phoenix is known for its beautiful song and
birds are known for their singing. I used an eagle as influence on the head of
the creature because they are known for the capacity for vision which in this
case is similar to the phoenix. I incorporated monkey ears as the phoenix hears
human music similar to humans. Instead of making the body full of feathers I
decided that the bird could has symbols engraved on it. This is because the
myth talks about meaning being part of the phoenix’s body.
I’m also thinking
of incorporating camouflage through the creature being able to change colour.
This is because the phoenix is thought to disappear sometimes.
I decided
to make my creature an air element. This is because the in the myth that I
chose, the phoenix is a peaceful creature that tends to stay up in trees. The creature enjoys seeds and nectar from
flowers. Sometimes it can be found on the ground foraging for seeds.
